The Senate approved another $459 billion for the Pentagon on Wednesday. This represents an increase of more than 10% over the previous Pentagon budget, according to the New York Times.
By my calculations, the increase (from $378 billion last year) is more like 21%.
President Bush still wants an additional $190 billion for his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Last year's total (for the Pentagon plus the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan) was only $448 billion; the increase in the combined budgets comes in at 45%.
I suppose it must be a good thing that we elected so many Democrats in 2006. But I can't figure out why.
Say goodbye to another $650 billion that we don't even have.
Not to mention the lives.
