This story from Maritime Canada is too cold even for my chilly blood: a man has been found guilty of assault and unlawful confinement after putting a baby in a freezer.
[Derrick] Hardy did not testify at his trial, but in a videotaped interview with police, he said the baby had a fever and he was trying to cool her down. The defence said the incident was poor child care, not assault.
[Provincial court Judge Jeff] Lantz took almost an hour to read his decision. He quoted extensively from the videotaped interview. He said in light of other evidence at the trial, he did not find Hardy's explanations credible.
Derrick Hardy will be sentenced next month.
