Why The Geneva Convention Matters

Recent developments may have given some readers the impression that the United States no longer cares about the Geneva Accords. That this impression is false can be seen from the following news article: US judge orders release of Abu Ghraib abuse videos
A federal judge has ordered the US Army to release more than 100 photographs and several videos taken by an American soldier relating to detainee abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq
The photographs and videos [are] to be edited so the faces of soldiers are not shown
The Government [...] had argued that turning over the documents would violate the Geneva Convention because soldiers could be identified.
In the 'good old days' they changed the names to protect the innocent.

UPDATE: the ABC report mentioned above is contradicted by other reports and I am attempting to determine whether or not it is credible. If it isn't, my petite joke [above] would be in bad taste. Or wouldn't it?
