The president made it quite clear at a news conference after the election that he had decided beforehand that a "fresh perspective" was needed at the Pentagon. This means, of course, that Bush was lying -- again -- a couple of days ago when he said Dumsfeld would keep his job for the next two years.
In fact, when Mr Bush told reporters last week that Mr Rumsfeld would be staying on, he had already spoken to Mr Rumsfeld about leaving. He said to the news conference that "win or lose, Bob Gates was going to become the nominee."Regarding Dumsfeld himself, the BBC says:
"We know they have weapons of mass destruction," he announced of the Iraqis at one stage. "We don't need any debate about it." His confidence and brusque dismissal of dissent was typical.Typical of this arrogant blood-soaked war-criminal.
Typical of an administration full of arrogant blood-soaked war-criminals.
In any case: Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Now if we could only find a nice cold cell in Abu Ghraib ... it would be the perfect place for this pathological scoundrel to spend the rest of his despicable life.
But I don't imagine for a second that justice will prevail in this case. Instead, I suppose he will get a cushy retirement package, which will allow him to return to his former occupation, helping rogue states to obtain nuclear weapons.
